Visualizing Snakey's Future Endeavors

Review of my presentation performance at Technical Research Exhibition and the next steps in the project.

How did I measure up?

There were two rounds of judging for the Technical Research Exhibition and I attended the first one. I received the score sheets from the judges and their judging criteria consisted of technical content, the presentation, organization and use of visual aid, and it being project based.

My scoresheets are stored in our research google drive so you can find them here.

What did I learn?

I have a bad habit of using terms and concepts that my audience will not understand. Thus, some of the things I say will not sink in because I have not broken them down. When practicing my presentation I tried to make a habit to first outline the order of topics I would address from the project. Within each of those topics I would try to break down the main concepts into smaller words or simpler terms. After that I made sure I had good transitions from topic to topic as I did a couple of runthroughs.

Facial expressions can be your biggest advantage. Often I gauged the audience's satisfaction or dissatifaction with the facial expressions they made. This way I adjusted on the fly if it seemed like they expressed extreme dissatisfaction or confusion regarding what I was saying.

I am definitely looking forward to presenting again and will definitely update my poster prior to that. Another addition that would probably help is having some sort of physical model or representation to use with the poster. We would probably 3D print it on a much smaller scale to make it easier to transport.
